I’m a Norwegian biology student at bachelor level from the University of Oslo, UiO. Before I came to UiO, I studied two years of biotechnology at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences in Ås, NMBU. I’ve also studied psychology in Spain for a year before I landed on the field of biology. At UNIS I’m taking the courses Arctic Marine Biology and Arctic Environmental Management. I think it’s a really great opportunity to be able to take a more active part of bioCEED here at UNIS, and I hope that my experiences from different learning environments will be useful. I really look forward to the rest of the semester with inspiring and interesting encounters.

I joined the interdisciplinary “FieldPass” project as a postdoc where I am investigating possible ways to strengthen the constructive alignment between learning activities (with fieldwork as a key element), forms of assessments and learning outcomes. Here I am going to test reflective diaries both as a tool to assess students` performance and as a source of valuable insights about what students actually learn during the fieldwork (so it is possible to improve their experience). I am also going to study the effect of Virtual Field Guides (VFG) as a tool to fill the gap between what students learn from lectures and what they experience during their fieldwork (and, as a result, to strengthen the alignment between different learning activities).

I am a student at the University of Bergen, currently in the second year of my bachelor’s degree in biology. I have always liked being involved in student organizations, hoping to improve student wellbeing both socially and academically. I believe that to ensure quality education it is important to improve the communication and cooperation between students, teachers and the administration. BioCEED is an important actor facilitating such development, and I became a bioCEED student representative because I want to contribute to the important job they are doing.

I am working as a postdoctoral researcher at bioCEED involved in the process of redesigning the bachelor programme in biology at UiB. One the one hand I am conducting research on outcomes in terms of student learning and acquisition of skills, while on the other hand I have administrative tasks in the redesign process. My academic background is within biology, having research experience in tree ecophysiology and teaching experience mainly in ecology and botany. Academic development is among my later academic interests, in more specific terms implementing undergraduate research as a teaching practice in higher education. I have a strong belief in bringing learning and research closer together as a means to both strengthen student learning as well as the promulgation of academic ideals and practice.

I am doing my last year in the bachelor in Biology at UiB, currently enrolled in a semester at UNIS. My main interests have always been the ocean and marine biology, and I am doing Arctic Marine Biology and Arctic Environmental Management here at UNIS, which is an amazing opportunity to get to know the Arctic region. This is my “maiden voyage” as a representative, and I am looking forward to taking on this task. UiB has had a good focus on developing the learning experience for students the last years, so I have some hands-on experience with the results from bioCEED (like biORAKEL etc.).
I have some teaching experience myself, from elementary school and field work with elementary schools with Naturvernforbundet.
Last semester, I spent my time in New Zealand at University of Otago, so I do have some nuances when it comes to different types of teaching and learning.
My goal for this semester is to help develop the teaching, and provide feedback through the students on how they feel about the teaching – as well as helping to close the gap between teachers, PhD and master students through projects like bioBREAKFAST, where different experiences can be shared.

I am 25 years old and norwegian, and a biology student at bachelor level. Currently I am living in Longyearbyen. My main interests (in the field of biology) are environmental biology and toxicology. I wanted to join bioCEED because I want to participate in what is going on, rather than observe and accept. I believe there is a gap between empirical science and what reaches the public, and that this experience will give me inspiration about how to communicate science. Also, I would love to influence in finding interesting and relevant topics and speakers for discussions (which I believe to be great arenas for creating ideas and inspiration).

Study groups include both students and educators/supervisors, both at university and in the workplace. One part of this research includes the evaluation student awareness of the role they can play in the society when entering the workforce as a biologist. Further, I implement and evaluate the use of digital technologies as learning and teaching tools in different BSc- and MSc-level courses.

I am passionate about that the biological education shall be experienced as relevant and meaningful. That the students, during and after lectures and practical training can use what they have learned to see the world, and the society, in a greater perspective, and at the same time use the learning outcome to work for a better world. This is what motivates me the most to be a student representative in bioCEED.
