UNIS Learning Forum

UNIS Learning Forum is an arena for exchange of experiences and opinions on teaching and learning - facilitating and motivating change and development. Recurrent topics include strategy planning for UNIS, bioCEED, field teaching and teaching challenges at UNIS with elaboration on combined master and PhD courses, peer evaluation and active learning, and student workload.

Annual Teacher Retreat at BIO

The Annual Teacher Retreat gathers teachers and course leaders at BIO for a two day seminar where topics such as developing and assessment of supervision practice or redesign of education programmes are discussed.

biORAKEL

biORAKEL (a.k.a. biORACLE) is a low‐threshold service where bachelor biology students have the opportunity to come and seek help from students of higher educational levels, so‐called "oracles".

bioCEED Seminar Series

Aimed primarily at our local teaching and learning staff and students, but open to others, the bioCEED seminar series deal with different teaching and learning topics, and we arrange workshops for teaching staff to work on topics like supporting students develop as academic writers, digital tools, the use and usefulness of student evaluations and writing teaching portfolios. codeRclub

Based on the R user group at UC Davis, codeRclub gathers BIO students and employees who wish to share their experience with R and RStudio. It is is a place where users come to work on their own projects, help each other, and get help for two hours. Focus is set on R coding and implementation problems rather than on choosing statistical approaches for analysing data. Join us every Friday during term time at 14:00 at Tunet or on Zoom.

Practical Training

We develop and test student-active learning activities that make use of practical elements, including field and laboratory work and internships. In our model, biological knowledge emerges in the interplay between practice, content knowledge, and societal relevance. Practical skills training are therefore important in their own right, but also contributes to students’ understanding of biological theory, and to their work preparedness. Read more...

Collegial Project Course

bioCEED offers the teaching and learning course Collegial Teaching and Learning – in STEM Education (MNPED660, 5 ECTS), mostly called just The Collegial Project Course. The course introduces participants to core concepts of teaching and learning in higher education to develop ability to improve student learning. The course is built on the principles of Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL), and focus on general pedagogical aspects, as well as aspects specifically related to teaching and learning in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). The main component of the course is a group SoTL project, addressing a teaching and learning issue of relevance to the participants’ own practice. The course requires no previous pedagogical training and welcomes both experienced and more novice employees that work with education, teaching and learning (i.e. professors, PhDs, administration, technicians, etc).
