I am 25 years old and norwegian, and a biology student at bachelor level. Currently I am living in Longyearbyen. My main interests (in the field of biology) are environmental biology and toxicology. I wanted to join bioCEED because I want to participate in what is going on, rather than observe and accept. I believe there is a gap between empirical science and what reaches the public, and that this experience will give me inspiration about how to communicate science. Also, I would love to influence in finding interesting and relevant topics and speakers for discussions (which I believe to be great arenas for creating ideas and inspiration).

I am a MSc student in Biology from Wageningen, the Netherlands. I’ve spent a significant amount of my study time in Svalbard doing bachelor- and master courses and my MSc thesis. Currently I’m finishing my MSc with an internship at bioCEED. I’ve been interested in education for a while and have been working with this in Wageningen as a member of the Programme Committee, which is responsible for the content of the biology programmes. I’m excited to dive deeper into educational topics during my internship and by being a student representative!

Based at UNIS, I am working both as a part-time researcher studying marine phenology and ornithology, and in the AB-204 (Arctic Ecology and Population Biology) classroom to help facilitate student active learning as part of the project "Numerical Competence and Student Active Learning". This is done primarily through helping to link learning opportunities for students to real-time research efforts in Svalbard (for example seabird research on Spitsbergen), and by helping students to improve their skills in R through completing practical exercises that use local data sets related to the course content.

I am a student representative from UNIS for fall 2019. At my home university in Middlebury, Vermont (USA), I study biology and environmental studies. I have a longstanding interest in science education particularly in the context of undoing systems of bias and inequality in access in science education. I'm so excited to be joining the bioCEED team

I’m 22 years old, and I come from Sandnes, Norway. I study to become a teacher in biology and chemistry at NTNU (integrated teacher program with master in science), but this semester I am studying arctic biology at UNIS. During my education I have learned a lot about teaching and learning, and I hope to use some of these experiences in my work as a student representative for bioCEED. From my home university I have also experienced large student groups and a small degree of student involvement, and this is something I want to try to make different.

Originally, I am from the Netherlands but for two years ago I have been living in Bodø where I study biology. As part of my bachelor I am now one semester at UNIS on Svalbard. After this I plan to go back to start a master in aquaculture. My special interest is in fish and aquaculture. My big hobby is refereeing lacrosse which I do all over Norway

I belong to the university of Oslo (UiO), where I am working on my biology bachelor. There I am involved in student politics and welfare, and the communication between students and faculty. From the beginning of my bachelor, it has been a dream of mine to come to UNIS and study arctic biology. Now that I'm here I can hardly contain my excitement. I have long been interested in biology, especially marine and arctic biology, so it comes as no surprise that I packed my bags as soon as I was accepted at UNIS.

I want to be a good asset for bioCEED and help spread the joy of studying biology that I experience everyday up here. I believe that bioCEED is doing an important job by spreading knowledge.

I am a biology student at the University of Bergen and currently enrolled at UNIS to finish my last semester of my bachelors. I have chosen to be a student representative for bioCEED this semester because I appreciate their work and would like to contribute to an interactive teaching and learning environment. I have been participating in several bioCEED activities in Bergen and look forward to become a part of the bioCEED-team at UNIS.

I'm a master student in marine biology, enrolled at the University of Bergen (UiB). I'm currently in Longyearbyen as a guest master student, studying zooplankton on the west and east coast of Svalbard. I was involved with bioCEED at UNIS as a bachelor student representative during 2015/2016, and have experience from bioCEED-projects in Bergen (e.g. Te2Le and biOrakel). Now I've joined again to share my experience and facilitate this year's student representatives.

As a Postdoctoral Researcher at bioCEED, I am involved in several projects including PRIME, iSCOPE, bioSKILLS and Teach 2 Learn where I aim to identify, develop and evaluate innovative pedagogical activities in higher education. I focus my research on the perception of transferable skills acquired through different student-active learning activities, including internships and practical experience. Study groups include both students and educators/supervisors, both at university and in the workplace. One part of this research includes the evaluation student awareness of the role they can play in the society when entering the workforce as a biologist. Further, I implement and evaluate the use of digital technologies as learning and teaching tools in different BSc- and MSc-level courses.

Eike was mainly working on getting everything in place for the internship course that  is now running at UNIS in autumn, and she also started up a digital knowledge platform about terrestrial biology. The knowledge platform is a teaching resource for students taking courses at UNIS, but is freely accessible for everyone. Also small odd jobs, supporting Tina and Pernille with the bioCEED work at UNIS was part of her job.

I am a biology student in the last year of my bachelor at the University of Tromsø. Currently I am taking two semesters at UNIS, and my field of interest is mainly arctic terrestrial ecology. I want to be a part of bioCEED because I think it is important to have an open dialog between the students and teachers for achieving a high learning outcome and improve the biology education for future students.

Attending UNIS in the Arctic Circle has been a dream of mine for the past several years and I am so incredibly happy to be here and to be a part of bioCEED. In the United States I attend the University of Oregon where I am in the final year of my bachelor program where I study both biology and environmental science. Climate change is an urgent world issue and studying at UNIS has been vital experience to link hands-on experiences of the altered Arctic biology to the information gained through my studies regarding our changing environment. I am committed to helping others and am deeply passionate about the well-being of students and the development of education which allows for their success ultimately resulting in positive change for the world.

I am a 22 years old post bachelor student in molecular biology at the University of Bergen. My plan is to proceed in this field, taking a master in molecular biology. During my bachelors I have been very active in the student organizations, particularly working for a better student environment, both socially and academically. I wanted to join bioCEED to be a part of this great initiative to better the availability and quality of information! And also, an important aspect for me is to further the involvement of my fellow molecular biologists in bioCEED!

I am a student at the Integrated Teacher Programme with Master in Science (Biology). This semester I am studying arctic biology at UNIS as an addition to my education at NTNU in Trondheim. I am passionate about that the biological education shall be experienced as relevant and meaningful. That the students, during and after lectures and practical training can use what they have learned to see the world, and the society, in a greater perspective, and at the same time use the learning outcome to work for a better world. This is what motivates me the most to be a student representative in bioCEED.
